PSP Mentors Carolyn Schneider and Ms. Rachel Binah are artists in the Fort Bragg community. They hosted Fort Bragg scholars  Kenlly, Miciella, Javier, Fernanda, and  Jasmin at Ms. Schneider’s studio for two art workshops. Our scholars have been inspired by having an outlet for their creativity and their amazing artistic skills. We are grateful that we have mentors that provide such unique and enriching experiences for our scholars.

Read students comments about the workshops below.

“My favorite part of the workshop was being able to draw with no limits and no mistakes, I got express myself through art and just draw whatever I felt like drawing at the moment. I chose to do this workshop in order to explore opportunities that the mentors provide for us and to be able to do something that I didn’t really have any background in and learn new techniques.  ” Jasmine O.

“I think this workshop really lets us be creative. It lets us freely express our thoughts on paper without any rules. My favorite part was using paint and getting my hands all messy. I loved it!” – Fernanda V.

“It was definitely something very new participating in Rachel and Carolyn’s workshop considering I’m such an independent artist and have always worked alone. The best part for me, was arriving at Carolyn’s studio and seeing all the different material she had available for us to use. I primarily work with pencil, so I immediately went for a material much different. I picked up the pastels and began to draw a squirrel head on a human, which was on display in Carolyn’s studio. It was definitely an experience that allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and learn something new about myself.” – Javier M.

“I did the art workshop because I’m very interested in art, my favorite part was seeing how different everyone demonstrated their art form. The first session we did our thing which I liked a lot. The second session we did something together which was a little more challenging, but it was fun because we tried something different.  ” Kenlly R.
