PSP thanks all our mentors for providing unique and enriching experiences for their students. Long-time PSP mentors Dr. and Mrs. Mark and Barb Lurie regularly put together events that our scholars and their mentors can enjoy as a group. Most recently they organized a tour of the USC campus and athletic facilities for PSP scholars and mentors, followed by a USC men’s basketball game at the Galen Center on February 17th, 2018. They were joined by PSP alumni, current mentor, and USC alum Jesus Herrera who joined the group for campus tour.

Read below for comments from our scholars, mentors and more photos from their experience.

The Lurie’s also arranged a private tour of the McKay Center, USC’s $70 million athletic facility that is closed to the public, and a brief tour of the campus. Our scholars and mentors met at USC’s Heritage Hall and were able to explore the McKay Center prior to the game.

The group was able to enjoy the USC men’s basketball team against Oregon State and USC won the game 72-59.

We asked our scholars to share about their time at the game and below is some of what they had to say.

“My favorite part of the USC game was that we went with most of PSP and it was really fun. I also liked about the game that USC won the game.” – Hanzalah K., Lenno

“My favorite part was probably the half time show, where a group of young kids performed their dance and it was quite adorable and impressive for their age. As well was when the cameras were placed on random people on the crowd and they had to dance to impress the rest of the audience. The game was fun!” – Lizeth V., Lennox

“The tour of the McKay center was really quite wonderful, hearing the history behind their sports programs and all of the aspects of the facility was more fascinating than I expected.” – Jessica L., Lennox Mentor

“My favorite thing about the game was the ending when USC won the game and the next day we could get free Chick Fil A” – Derek M., El Monte

“My favorite part of the game was exploring USC.” – Camila H., Lennox
