PSP welcomed new 7th grade scholars from Lennox into the program in late January. These scholars have been matched with caring mentors all of them have now participated in their first PSP outing!
These 7th graders went to museums, new restaurants and explored new areas of Los Angeles with their mentors. We asked mentors and scholars to tell us about their outings and below are their responses.
“My first PSP outing was going to Joe’s Crab Shack. My favorite part of this outing was eating a crab that was something new and different for me. It was a very cold day but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the day. Later that day, we had a choice to go to the bookstore or to go walk around the beach. We decided to walk down the beach and get to know each other. I got to know my scholar partner and my mentor much more, I’m excited to go on many other outings with them. Thanks to my sponsor, I had the opportunity to go on the first outing that I gladly enjoyed!” – Alondra C.
“My first PSP outing was going to Joe’s Crab Shack. My favorite part was cracking the crab and eating the meat in it. We also took a walk and go to know each other. I got to know my scholar partner and my mentor and I look forward to go to more outings with them.” – Anthonia E.
“Our first field trip was to the Science center but we also visited the African American Science Museum (AASM). My favorite part was when we visited the art side of it. The science center was amazing.” – Mason W.
“My first outing with Ravina was fantastic and I had such a great time getting to know her. I tried new foods and we talked about a variety of topics. It was amazing and I cant wait to go on our next outing.” – Elia T.
“Our first outing was at a fine dining Italian restaurant on the beach. Danally and Elia were dressed up in their dresses and truly enjoyed experiencing the various food items on the menu. Elia, having always wanted to try escargot, went for it and enjoyed it! We all had a chance to get to know each other and i had a chance to learn more about what they desired to get out of the PSP experience, with common themes being breaking past fears and growing thru this, experiencing different cultures thru food & museums, enjoying sporting events, and experiencing more in life. Both of these students are truly remarkable in their maturity and aspirations in life. I look forward to our next outing, which will be a Kings game.” – Ravina K., Mentor
“My first outing with my mentors was going to a virtual reality arcade. My favorite part of this outing were the controls that you had to use to move around. This was the best part for me because it was my first time using virtual reality equipment. I was able to meet my partners and my mentors and I am eager to go on an outing to a sports event.” – Alonso D.
“The first trip that my mentors and I did was go to a virtual reality arcade. It was very fun playing video games there. It was amazing how real everything felt, like if you were actually in the game! I had never experienced something so fun. It was also really nice getting to know my mentors and my partner. I am eager to go to more places.” – Adan C.
