The next day the Ukiah graduating scholars celebrated at the Rivino Winery. This year’s graduates had the opportunity to celebrate in person alongside family, mentors, PSP Board Members, donors and staff.

During a joyous celebration in Los Angeles, PSP alumni Anaid Villa offered encouraging advice to graduating scholars. Anaid shared, “Don’t be afraid to be your unique self…Value the unique experiences you bring to the table and see yourself as an asset.” Anaid described the challenging road to college as a first generation student and emphasized the significant role that PSP played in her success as a student and individual.
Mentors presented their scholars with certificates and congratulated them for their determination and persistence to achieve their dreams. Lillian French, mentor to Jarethzy Roman, Susan Castillo and Leslie Najera stated, “When I first met them in 8th grade I knew I wanted to be part of their lives..It has been such a wonderful experience to watch them turn into amazing and confident young women.”

Graduates also expressed their gratitude for the opportunities they were provided over the last six years and described their most memorable moments. PSP scholar Andy shared, “I never would have thought of going to Chicago…getting the experience to go at my age was really cool and I actually met a lot of pilots who I still communicate with today.”
After honoring this year’s graduates, PSP also had the chance to recognize a mentor and graduate from the Class of 2021 who celebrated their graduation virtually a year ago. Patrick Ramirez and his mentor Arlene LeGaspe shared their appreciation for the program and the impact their relationship had on their lives.
Scholars were able to explore new places, try new things and most importantly create long lasting relationships with mentors. PSP scholar Jarethzy spoke about the impact her mentor had on her life, “She’s been a big help along the way and I know she’ll always be a phone call away.” The key to the program’s success are the strong relationships that scholars and mentors create together. Navigating the pathway to college is difficult but a strong support system makes the challenges much easier for students to get through.
Congratulations to the PSP Class of 2022!
