celebration. We highlight 6 women scholars from different career fields that demonstrate the power, resilience and intelligence of women. PSP is happy to empower our young women scholars and they will one day be recognized for their contributions to society.

PSP thanks all our mentors for providing unique and enriching experiences for their students. Long-time PSP mentors Dr. and Mrs. Mark and Barb Lurie regularly put together events that our scholars and their mentors can enjoy as a group. Most recently they organized a tour of the USC campus and athletic facilities for PSP scholars and mentors, followed by a USC men’s basketball game at the Galen Center on February 17th, 2018. They were joined by PSP alumni, current mentor, and USC alum Jesus Herrera who joined the group for campus tour.

Partnership Scholars Program encourages scholars to take advantage of their summer break by participating in academic and enrichment summer programs and this is the time of year when they start planning for the coming summer. We asked the scholars that participated in summer programs last year to share their experiences with us and they also recommend programs to scholars for this summer. These programs range from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth to Camp Mendocino and ballet programs.

PSP Mentors Carolyn Schneider and Ms. Rachel Binah are artists in the Fort Bragg community. They hosted Fort Bragg scholars Kenlly, Miciella, Javier, Fernanda, and Jasmin at Ms. Schneider’s studio for two art workshops. Our scholars have been inspired by having an outlet for their creativity and their amazing artistic skills. We are grateful that we have mentors that provide such unique and enriching experiences for our scholars.

On January 31, 2018 we welcomed seven new 7th grade students from El Monte into PSP. They join eight students from Lennox to complete our class of 2023 cohort.
We celebrated the seven new El Monte scholars with community leaders, school staff and administration, current and PSP alumni.

January is National Mentoring Month and PSP joins the campaign to celebrate our mentors! PSP pairs highly qualified mentors with motivated scholars. This allows students to enrich their lives with new experiences and have a guide through their academic and personal lives. We are so grateful to all of our mentors for their dedication to PSP and our scholars. They are making a difference by giving their time! PSP has an 11 member board of trustees. They oversee the organization and we asked what they are grateful for this holiday season. We are grateful for their service and commitment to PSP and our PSP scholars.
Our Board Chair, Ms. Meg Sanchez says, “I’m grateful for more than 22 years of friendship with Dr. Glenn Langer, the founder of PSP. Because of him I have been involved in a program with wonderful, kind and intelligent scholars, mentors and donors, people I would not otherwise have had the chance to know and spend time with. He will forever be my hero.” – Ms. Sanchez, Board Chair

We asked our scholars what their favorite PSP outings were during the year.
We had many opportunities for them to experience new foods, cultures and activities.
One scholar says, “My favorite PSP outing this year was going to China Town. I got to try new food and learn about a new culture.”
